What is this site about?

The Madeira Low down is a site devoted to the events in and around Madeira island. Its about informing visitor’s and locals about what’s hot and where to find it. Obviously this site is a blog, so expect story’s and event coverage in a relatable first-person tone (it’s like reading our diaries!).

What do you hope the accomplish?

Well my personal goal is to sharp my now very dull writing skills, but the primary goal of this site is to educate people about Madeira’s rich heritage and beautiful landscape. Many things can be learned from this island and the people that live here- conservation and enviromental living for one thing, as well as the importance of family and tradition. After reading a few articles you will see what I mean. Madeira Lowd Down’s secondary objective is to establish a reader and contributor base to help the site grow. Users are encouraged to sign-up and submit their own stories, comments, and info regarding anything Madeira and Porto Santo.

An American guy with a computer…

Kevin is the creator of this site and most of the posts on it. He is also the guy writing this text- so I’m going to stop pretending I’m too important to talk about myself and just lay it out. I started this site to share my experiences here in Madeira with the rest of the world. This island truly is a gem in the Atlantic, if you get the chance to come here you should take it.

When not writing for the Madeira Low-Down I am working on various design and programming projects, with clients from around the world. Its all well and good but I wouldn’t mind a full-time job outside of the house with steady pay.

So whats in it for You?

How does €2 per used post sound to you? That means if you write an article with 200+ words, and we use it, you get payed €2. Its that simple. Considering there is hardly any content on the site now your submission is likely to be used. All we ask is that it is well written with 200 or more words in either Portuguese or English and is accompanied by usable pictures (not copyrighted).

Not good enough? Perk #2 for writing to the Madeira Low-Down is getting your name and face on this site. As any young professional knows putting yourself “out there” is one of the keys to success. Contributors will have their very own portfolio page (or pages if writing is one of your disciplines). Take the opportunity to upload photos of your work and feel free to drop your new link into your resumé.
